Best Free File Storage. Handsdown.

by Trisha

Need a place for secure file storage? Not only that, but with a pretty big chunk of disk space? Occasionally do you want to share your files? and know how many people downloaded any particular file?

I usually opt for google, if it fits my needs, but this time the big G didnt cut it. I wanted to share a .zip file. So I went to work, signing up and comparing many of the free online file storage sites. I went through about 6 of these services before I found one I even liked. File Qube by far gets my vote for best free online file storage site…

Not only does it include 2GB’s of free space, it’s easy to use and quick to navigate with a smooth interface, and has a multitude of features. It meets the requirement for secure file storage with a quick share/unshare toggle and password protect option.

For files that you want to share or publish, it couldn’t be any easier. There’s a ‘hotlinks’ function that allows your visitor to download your files straight from your website, without having to even look at fileqube’s site for download.

The feature I love, is that it counts downloads, so you don’t have to mess with any other type of stats to know if your files are getting any attention.

They have a nifty little widget maker to create widgets to share files right on your website (filebox widget and flash maker widget)

And, they include services that you drag and drop to activate. These include 2 image editors and 2 document editors. Now, storing and editing your files doesn’t get any easier!

    Great Post Trisha,

I will have to check out File Qube. Another online storage tool that you might like is DocLanding. It is great for work between the office and home, it is geared towards small businesses and entrepreneurs. Beyond the tools listed above DocLanding also offers versioning, document annotation, controlled (timed) sharing and it is compliant (HIPPA, SEC, and more). It is nice if you need to share sensitive documents without paying for a courier.

    Keep up the great posts,
    Will

Thanks Allison! sooner or later I will have enough time to design some fresh wordpress layouts for you guys.

Will, just checked out DocLanding… good stuff! Clients can preview photoshop docs without having to install photoshop! That means, if Im working on a web design (or a small enough file that the upload time is quick), I can have a client on the phone, waiting to refresh… basically watching me work. This would save SO much time. No more back and forth emails, phone calls and edited versions! (how annoying). I also like the annotation tools and tracking ability. thanks for the addition!
